An Indo- European people whose traditional homeland (Kurdistan) encompasses roughly 200,000 square miles in the mountains of Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey, the Kurds have been history's victims since time out of mind. Conquered over the centuries by Arabs, Mongols, and Turks, they slipped from notice until the Ottoman Empire's breakup. Randal offers first-hand reportage on how the US-led coalition left Kurdish forces in the lurch after its Gulf War triumph. Doubling back, he sorts out how Israel, the UK, the USSR, and other powers have used Kurds for their own geopolitical purposes. This is the best book of logos i have ever seen. It's all about shapes and forms, all shapes are black and white, barely no type. Just the plain form, no color. This helps a designer to concentrate on his work and be inspired. Best buy i made in a long time.I don't like logos with many colors, gradients. This book takes the simplicity back. Everything here is simple, scalable to small sizes and remarkable.Also the categories the book have are extremely useful. Such as: shapes that complete each other, vertical lines, circles, monograms and so on. The categories are related to the challenges designers face when designing logos. Its easy to find right the kind of shape you need to inspire you.The only real complain i have is with the size. The book is too huge. It should be 30% smaller and still show pretty well all of its content.I get it. Its planned for being a table book. But its too cumbersome to use for research and to have on the top of your desk all day. So to me that defeats the purpose.But the content is worth. Go get it.

Awesome book with plenty of inspiration for any minimalist logo. Keeping everything black + white helps to focus on developing a recognizable shape that will carry across pretty much any medium, even a single color print/silk screen. The case studies are very cool too.

This book is huge, both in terms of volume of content and volume of the book itself. It's a serious tome! Would probably cause serious bodily harm if dropped on your foot. Contains a fantastic survery of mid-century logos from the dead simple to the bizarre. Great inspiration material, and excellent alternative to dumbbells for curls and similar exercises.

This book is absolutely incredible. There are older books out there I've wanted that cost $150+ that cover modernistic logos - but so glad I found this book. For $60 this book is a no brainer for any logo designer. Thousands and thousands of fantastic timeless forms for inspiration.

The Red Army's Operation Bagration that liberated Belorussia in June 1944 sits like a colossus in the annals of World War II history. What is little noted in the history books, however, is that the Bagration offensive was not the Soviets’ first attempt. Battle for Belorussia tells the story of how, eight months earlier, and acting under the direction of Stalin and his Stavka, three Red Army fronts conducted multiple simultaneous and successive operations along a nearly 400-mile front in an effort to liberate Belorussia and capture Minsk, its capital city. The campaign, with over 700,000 casualties, was a Red Army failure.

Glantz describes in detail the series of offensives, with their markedly different and ultimately disappointing results, that, contrary to later accounts, effectively shifted Stalin’s focus to the Ukraine as a more manageable theater of military operations. Restoring the first Belorussian offensive to its place in history, this work also reveals for the first time what the later, successful Bagration operation owed to its forgotten precursor.

David M. Glantz, an officer in the US Army from 1963 to 1993, is editor in chief of The Journal of Slavic Military Studies. He is the author of numerous books, many from Kansas, including his celebrated Stalingrad Trilogy. Mary Elizabeth Glantz obtained a PhD in history from Temple University and is the author of the book FDR and the Soviet Union: The President’s Battle over Foreign Policy (Kansas).

Part three deals with the rapidly rotating Navier-Stokes equations, first in the whole space, where dispersion effects are considered. The case where the domain has periodic boundary conditions is then analyzed, and finally rotating Navier-Stokes equations between two plates are studied, both in the case of periodic horizontal coordinated and those in R2. In Part IV, the stability of Ekman boundary layers and boundary layer effects in magnetohydrodynamics and quasigeostrophic equations are discussed. The boundary layers which appear near vertical walls are presented and formally linked with the classical Prandlt equations. Finally spherical layers are introduced, whose study is completely open.
