I enjoyed it, but was missing some basic, essential concepts that would help in my understanding of the material. Then came Dr. M's book and I was reading, enjoying and understanding the material as things are making sense now. I have just finished Chapter 7:Regression and thoroughly enjoyed it and it refreshed a number of skills and topics that were in the recesses of my brain.I had even emailed the author with a couple of questions and he responded quickly and cleared up a couple of things.Bottom line is anyone interested in learning about Data Analytics this is THE book to start your learning path with and hope it will spur your interest in the field and enable you to grasp more in depth topics and further your skills.
The language of this book was a very simple, interesting and eye opening. It covers very broad subjects starting from how data is related to businesses to the upcoming next generation of data science. Now the world has changed into a whole new era. There are so many sophisticated tools and techniques to handle growing volume of data that generates from ERP, social media, web, whichever sources that can record. Thanks to the digital technology boom. Data is not just numbers. It is the words that we speak, ideas, posts, chats, behaviors, every single click, everything that is recorded and saved digitally. How we predict and interpret whole population with sampling is left way behind. With the help of big data, now we can know every detail with high precision. These giant data are being managed by powerful tools and techniques, artificial intelligence. They know more about us than what we know about ourselves. There are many powerful open sources such as R, Weka, SQL and etc, if you want to take advantage of this opportunity, big data. Also there are free online courses if you want to dig deeper than what the book covers. Big data is not just computer science, it is for everything that connects with decision making. I love the book lots. it's well explained and detailed regarding the different parts in Data Mining techniques and Machine Learning algorithms. My favorite parts of the book are getting through step by step of each algorithm, how well the author explained about benefit of those algorithm; how it has been used and how those algorithm benefit the community, company and organization; and the final thing is review questions and exercises at the end of each chapter which helps to buzz up my understanding. The book inspired me more to explore the knowledge of Machine Learning and Data Mining and I'm eager to get a hands on experience as a data engineer.
This book is a very sensible and easy approach for anyone interested in the field of data analytics. I covers the broad areas that Data analytics such as tools that can be used and the overall application of data analytics. I took this book as a recommendation for my masters class by my professor. It has helped me get an insight of what data analytics is and how can one apply it to their need.I am a computer science masters student, and this book is not so technical so anyone who is even remotely ever engaged or interested in the fast growing field of data analytics and data science can read and understand with out the overburdening technical stuff found in other books.
